Inspiring Journal Ideas

Happy 2018!

Something that I have found challenging to keep up on a daily basis is to journal.  I have so many brand new journals and perfect pens to write with…yet I just don’t find the time to sit and start.  Anyone else have this challenge too?  Where do I start?  What do I write about?  Why is it that when I go to write, I have complete amnesia?  Can you relate?

Well, I have found an excellent solution to my own writer’s block and I think this will be helpful to others reading this post!  You can find online many different types of guided journals or even lists of writing ideas.  Ideas on how we feel, think, act, or react to different situations in life.  Ideas on health, fitness, relationships, families, and goals for the future.  I personally think this is a great way to get started in the practice of writing.  It is also a great way for us to become more focused and reflective on self in ways we never thought about.

I’ve decided to put up a few journal ideas that I really like and maybe you will find helpful too.

  • Make a list of 25 things that make you smile
  • If my body could speak, it would say…
  • Make a list of all the things you would like to say “no” to.
  • What does unconditional love look like to you?
  • What is the dominant emotion in your life right now?
  • Write a letter to someone you want to forgive.
  • How would you like to make this world a better place?
  • Write about something or a few new things that you would like to learn about.
  • What would make you feel fulfilled spiritually?
  • Write a list of regrets and how you may be able to change them.

These are just a few ideas to get your started.

Happy writing!

Good ideas…I would say, start small…weather, what I did, noticed etc each day….
I do lists…10 books that I would want on a deserted island…it is actually like 50… I keep adding.
I started this with my other friend Andrea years ago….like 20 CDs that I would want…if I could only have one meal a day a week for a year…what would I want? So on Sunday…pot roast, Tues some kind of veggies, Wed, chicken, Thursday fish, Friday, veggies, Saturday, quiche, etc… Makes me think about how I would plan menus, recycle, use leftovers….as I am now a declared diabetic, who is not willing to take meds, I have learned to be creative with foods….and learn more about my dietary needs….no carbs, well very low, no sugar and no whites….in the last 6 weeks, my sleep has improved, I have more energy, lots of time for reflection and learning to love raw foods….by the by…I still have eggs for breakfast, and veggies for supper…nuts, and yogurt, Greek, and berries for snacks…and mix it up…raw foods are great…and I have learned a lot about hunger and emotional eating….
So time to keep a diary/journal….
Now I have been asked to teach a couple of classes at the Society for learning in Retirement…
They would be 8 weeks each…so I have some ideas…movies about separation, etc..
Herbs and foods as medicine, religions of the world…all of these I would bring in speakers, so I don’t need all the knowledge, but I sure know lots of people who have that knowledge…it is two hours, once a week, and in the meantime I take other courses…I have learned to play Mah Jong, ( I am already pretty good at bridge) lol taken courses on Ancient Civilizations, Aztecs, Financial Stategies, Death and living, and I have learned Calligraphy…which I LOVE…but that I found very difficult to learn…
Since I love learning new things, I want to write down what I learn and experience each day, and when I go back and reread some of what I wrote I am amazed….

Journaling IS NOT a chore, it is a way to get in touch with yourself, and find out who I am, what I want, what I can give and what is important to me….and how it shifts and changes…must be retirement…hahaha….but it gives me something to look forward to and keeps my brain sharp…which is what you will need when you get to be my age…..lol

Love the first three, but have to say the body one made me laugh because I’m pretty sure I could fill pages and pages just using that one.

Thanks for these marvellous ideas and getting the ball rolling.
