Reiki Level 1
My husband and I attended a Reiki Level One class on Sunday and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I had taken Level One last year, but I wanted to go again for a couple of reasons.
The teacher that we chose teaches a more traditional Japenese version of Reiki, which varies a little from the westernized Reiki. I also wanted to refresh some of the techniques taught to us in level one. Not to mention that it was a great way to spend some time with Paul (my Husband) on a Sunday afternoon. 🙂
When we started to look for a Reiki teacher we decided to look at different websites and were instantly drawn to Jennifer’s webpage, Mountain Sky Reiki She has lots of information on her site about herself, her travels and Reiki. We knew right away that she would be a great teacher for us.
We spent the day learning the true history of Reiki, the 5 precepts, many different healing positions, meditations and treatments for ourselves as well as others.
What I found most interesting was the difference in myself when I compare how I was in this class verses the class last year. The most noticeable difference was in my hands. When I received my first attunement last year, I was able to feel a bit of heat in my hands, but that was it. This time around, I could feel heat, cold, a lot of tingling and even waves of energy at times. I also noticed that the different colours I am able to see were much more vibrant when doing the self healing. I was quite surprised and pleased by the end of the class!
There could be many reasons for this difference, and I honestly don’t know the answer. If I were to guess (or use some intuition 😉 ) , I would say that I am much more open to the Reiki healing process now than I was last year, and with that, the energy flowing through me is stronger and more noticeable.
I am really glad I took this class again. I feel that it is definetly a great stepping stone for anyone looking to develop any of their natural abilities or even for people looking for alternative healing.

Hi Drea, thanks for sharing your experience with us! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. You’re post came at the right time, as I have been thinking of getting back into the Reiki flow 🙂
Have you been doing Reiki self-healing during the year between the 2 classes you took? From my experience, the more Reiki you do on yourself and others, you will get more and more in tune with the healing energies…It almost feels like your connection to the energies gets stronger??
Like you, at first had the feeling of heat in my palms, and I get really hot while healing others. Then the more healings I did on others, the more I felt stronger sensations like tingling in my hands and so I would know how long to stay in one area based on that.
I love how you can see colors! I always wanted to, but I am clairsentient dominant for now. You must be clairvoyant??
Anyway. I just had to tell you I really resonate with your writing style. It is honest, authentic, simple, and sharing, and I feel you are being yourself. I am striving to be more like this in my own writing, so it’s nice to see a blogger doing this where I can use it to model mine from! And also have the courage to do so 😉
Looking forward to your next post!
Hi Carlota,
I didn’t do much with Reiki between the two classes…I didn’t really resonate with it again until now. Now that I’ve had the second class, I really can feel more tingling as well as heat/cold. I am still having trouble with pinpointing areas on other people that need extra work, but I am guessing that will come with time and practice. 🙂
I’ve been seeing different colours for a while now, which is cool. I am getting better at visualizing in my head, this has been kinda hard for me. We shall see where it goes! What I’ve been noticing for the past 6 months or so, is that I am pretty good at picking up on other people’s energy and I can feel what they are feeling. I’ve been doing this all my life, but wasn’t aware of it until recently. The more I do it, the better I am at reading how people are feeling, and even what they are thinking sometimes. It’s pretty cool! I have a great mentor that has really taught me a lot!
Thank you so much for visiting my site! I’m really glad you enjoy reading my posts! Hope to hear from you again soon!
🙂
What I remember from my Reiki teacher is that the energy of Reiki generally goes to the points in the body that need that energy. So, yes, it does help to focus on certain body points, however, we can trust that Reiki does what it does! What do you think?
I learned that too, that Reiki flows to wherever you need it. But both teachers taught to do an initial scan of a client to see where they might have a problem and that by hovering over that area, you are sending not only the flow of energy through the body but a concentrated energy to that specific spot. Do you think that by concentrating on one area, it could shorten the time it takes to heal that particular area? Could that be the difference?
The way I see it, Reiki energy will flow to whichever area IT feels needs “healing”. However, if a client wants you to concentrate on a specific area or if you can pick up a specific area that needs healing more than others, then I think it’s good to put focus on that area directly.
I see it as a way to serve the client’s intentions. For example, if a client walks in with a knee problem, and they state their intention that they would like you to help them with their knee, then I think it’s good to concentrate on that area.
Technically speaking, you should be able to do Reiki on their head and the Reiki should flow to their knee, but what if they are also smokers and they need healing in their lungs? What if all the Reiki travels to their lungs and focuses on that area?
Of course this may be to the highest benefit of the client, BUT they might leave the session feeling like “nothing happened” because they were expecting healing in their knee, not their lungs. Their lungs may have benefited from healing, but because they are focusing on their knee, they might miss that.
In the few Reiki sessions I’ve done so far, I’ve tried doing both the focused approach and the general approach. Spending some time letting the energy just flow to what areas it feels need healing most, and also focusing on the area that the client wants to focus on.
By taking that approach you honor the clients wishes, as well as providing general healing to whichever area the Reiki wants to flow to.
